About

"Well, speak. Don't you see the splendid mockery, the genius?" He struck his own chest with his fist. "They'll come to our performances, fill our coffers with gold, and never guess what they harbor, what flourishes right in the corner of the Parisian eye. In the back alleys we feed on them and they clap for us before the lighted stage..."
- Nicolas de Lenfent, pg 263 of The Vampire Lestat

What Grand Guignol looks like in contemporary times.  London’s Le Nouveau Guignol’s production of “The Last Kiss,” based on a 1920s story by horror writer Maurice Level.  A disfigured man whose lover threw acid in his face returns to exact his revenge, by pouring acid on her while he kisses her.  Yikes!

Level’s story ends like this:

… Then he straightened himself, stumbled over her, felt about the wall to find the switch, and put out the light.  And round them, as in them, was a great Darkness.
